We
have put together some basic information about a few different dental emergencies.
BROKEN TOOTH
Minor fractures or cracks can generally be fixed with a simple smoothing, a basic restoration,or with a
crown. In more involved breaks close to the nerve, coverage of the nerve may be required followed by a filling or a
crown. Major fractures involving the nerve will require a root canal, post and build up, and a crown. If the root is broken
half way down its length then the tooth is lost. If the root is broken close to the apex, the broken portion will probably
need to be removed surgically after the root canal.
Crown Comes Loose/Off-Call our office so we can
get you in ASAP to recement that crown. You can place tooth paste on the inside of the crown and put the crown back on your
tooth. This should keep the tooth from being to sensitive.
ABSCESS Dental abscesses are either due to tooth infections as a result of
nerve dying inside the tooth, or gum infections. You need to contact a dentist immediately because in some cases an
abscess may be life threatening. Antibiotics and pain killers are generally needed. Additional therapy might also be needed.
SEVERE
PAIN Severe pain can be caused by many things. Some examples are: trauma, tooth fractures, gum abscess, tooth
infection, bone infection after surgery, and dental procedures. See your dentist immediately.
